Living Heritage Company (french label)
Founded in 1987, the 1,700 m² Atelier Quillet is entirely dedicated to the art of restoration and bookbinding. It is a veritable institution in the field of preserving historical, ancient and contemporary documents. Located in the heart of a place steeped in heritage and expertise, the workshop is a haven of meticulous work where tradition and innovation come together. The workshop was first awarded the Living Heritage Company label in 2007.
The team of 40 professionals is passionate and highly qualified. It specialises in a variety of advanced techniques for the restoration and conservation of all types of documents. Each of our restorers and bookbinders brings unique expertise, ranging from the restoration of ancient manuscripts to work on modern books, from administrative archives to private collections.
What documents do we restore?
For over 35 years, Atelier Quillet has been applying its expertise to the conservation of written and graphic heritage. Specialising in the restoration of ancient and precious documents, our workshop works on a wide variety of media.
Each operation is carried out in accordance with conservation standards, following strict specifications that guarantee the reversibility of treatments and the chemical neutrality of the materials used. This approach stabilises the document while preserving its historical integrity and legibility as much as possible.

The restoration of the physical structure of the documents, i.e. the pages that make up a volume, is carried out with the utmost care. Before any work is undertaken, an analysis phase is carried out to assess the presence of micro-organisms. If necessary, the documents can then be disinfected in an anoxic chamber.
If necessary, the documents can then be disinfected in an anoxic chamber. Depending on the state of deterioration of the paper, various interventions may be proposed: doubling to reinforce fragile sheets, filling in gaps or missing parts, or even re-margining.
Finally, we offer all kinds of reconditioning services, such as binding, storage boxes or new binding.

The Workshop also handles iconographic documents, which are often fragile: handwritten parchments, architectural plans, old posters, technical tracings, maps, etc.
Our expertise in these varied, fragile and time-sensitive materials requires tailor-made treatments. Atelier Quillet carries out dry or wet cleaning, flattening and filling in gaps, always ensuring that the techniques and materials used are compatible.
Documents are restored with a constant focus on preserving their legibility, physical stability and aesthetic value, whether they are intended for conservation in a public or private collection.

Binding and titling
Bookbinding restoration is one of Atelier Quillet's core activities. Whether antique, decorated or everyday bindings, we work on all types of bindings: leather, canvas, parchment, etc., using techniques and materials that respect the original.
Depending on the condition of the cover, the work can range from titling the book to partial or complete restoration, including reinforcing the hinges or repairing the caps and corners.
